Beautiful handmade 1800's Victorian, floor length, full, rich black velvet evening coat for the theatre or
opera house.
This coat is in amazingly good condition
with luscious,
soft black velvet with no tears, worn spots (a couple of pin sized areas of wear) or other issues; only one small area under
where the button was sewn on has small tears, which can be covered with a large dress brooch or button. The original button
had to be removed as it was falling apart and stuck to the velvet. See Photos.
No pockets. Slightly tailored at the waist.
The light beige lining is a heavy silky taffeta
type material. It is in excellent condition, only in need of a cleaning if so desired. The bottom of the lining
has some soiling & water stains. The whole coat has wrinkling due to storage and needs a cleaning just for the lining.
We have not cleaned this coat as we do not have access
to a cleaners that handles fine clothing. All the velvet and lining is sturdy enough to be cleaned by a professional.
There is no dry rot.
It does need to hang in a steamy area to hang out a
bit, but it is truly a beautiful, useable evening coat. The nap of the velvet is excellent.
This coat looks far better in person and with proper
cleaning and small repair of button area, it is a fabulous coat.
This coat is a small size. The lady wearing this coat
is a size 6-8. The fit is forgiving one way or the other probably by one size.
This old velvet was very hard to photograph.
Much prettier in person.
Truly a beauty!
