Often, when a World War II serviceman went off
to serve, he gave his sweetheart a present to remember him by. In this case, it was a United States Naval sailor, from Sterling,
Colorado, who purchased this compact pendant for his lady love, from a local jeweler. His picture was probably inside,
as this compact has a picture compartment in lieu of a mirror.
This lovely piece of WWII memorabilia is comes complete with original
box, original 24" sterling silver chain that slips through the top of the compact in hidden loop holes, a length of her auburn
hair, and the small compact pendant with the USN insignia on the front. This compact pendant was made by Marathon and
is so marked.
The only thing missing is the love note he surely wrote to her.
The back of this pendant is in near mint condition with
the faintest marks of use. Clasp and hinge in excellent working condition.
Inside, only the cute unused pink puff remains. In lieu
of a mirror, there is a place for the picture of one's sweetheart.
This piece of history was well taken care of and the case is in
nearly mint condition. On the outside, leaning the compact into the light, there is not one surface scratch.
A unique, near mint, original, historical, collectible WWII USN
compact pendant.
