Antique Civil War Black Ribbon Bonnet

American Civil War era, entirely handmade, black velvet ribbon hat. For the top of the head, there is a long black velvet ribbon tie (replacement) to hold it on. The body of the hat is constructed of black antique silk, with a brim of gold silk covered in a fine black sheer material.
 
The big bow is black silk and the small bows are of black velvet ribbon which are attached to heavy black strawlike threads twisted and matted. Very hard to describe.
 
I believe the base of the hat is authentic, but am thinking the ribbon trims may have been replaced. I just don't know for sure. The estate this came from was a serious antique collector, but she also was an excellent seamtress, so she may have restored this hat.
 
If you are into authentic Civil War costumes, this is the one.
This is an exceptional hat!
