Unusual Coro goldtone fig leaf brooch with scattered inset rhinestones.

Very simple and very nice.

Leaves, and the fig leaf inparticular, are/were a popular motif in early costume jewelry making.

The fig leaf is one of our oldest plants and the most mentioned plant in the Bible: The most famous is in Genesis 3:7 relating the story of the fall of man & expulsion of Adam & Eve from the Garden of Eden "........... and they knew they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons................... "

Since this famous Biblical reference, fig leaves have been used as covering, as on male sculptures & paintings, & figuratively, as in the proverb, "The naked truth need no fig leaf."
