Antique figural red leather compact in the shape of
a book with a gold pen along side which is the clasp. The red leather has orange, black and gold gilt in a very ornate pattern.
The bottom is embossed red leather; also in a fancy design.
The entire outside of this compact is nearly pristine. No scuffs, scratches, or
marks on the leather.
The inside is the original sifter. The puff shown is no longer with the compact
as it was not original. The mirror is loose & I have left it that way because the back of the mirror is lined with old
foreign newsprint. I think it is Italian newsprint but am not sure. One of the romance languages for sure. The mirror itself
shows age and loss of silvering, but it still reflects and attests to the age of this piece.
The gold pen clasp appears very real but is really a sliding clasp which opens
the compact. You can see it in various stages of open/close in the photos.
This is a wonderful & collectible figural compact.
