EARRING BACK CONVERSION DETAILS

We are happy to announce we now have the capability to convert most any earring or cufflink into pierced professionally. Stones do not need to be removed. It is a safe, fast, permanent fusion process which does not cause heating to the metal, enamel or stones.

So gather up your favorite vintage earrings or Grandma's earrings that you love, but never wear because they hurt your ears, and get them converted. Maybe you have earrings with broken backs. Problem solved with modern marvels.

Keep in mind that sometimes changing the backs destroys or hides the designer name. We will make every effort to preserve the name, but placement thereof is everything when putting on a new back and many of the old earring backs have the maker's name stamped right on the clip or screw back itself. Impossible to save. In my mind, better to be able to wear and enjoy than preserve the name. But there are many purists out there.

Not all earrings can be converted due to the type of metal that was used to construct them. Pot metal will not hold the weld and some other metals also will not hold well. See photos of examples of hard to convert or problem earring designs. Try to visualize where a post could be placed; circle earrings are nearly impossible and some designs will require the earring to be turned upside down when converted, so figure out where the post would go and if that would suit your needs.

Sterling, gold, gold fill & most other metals will hold the fusion weld very well.

The basic cost to change the backs is $23 + cost of the finding if it is gold + $5 for return shipping. If you request karat gold the cost is based on current market prices. We also have hypo-allergenic stainless backs. Stainless backs will be included in the $23 cost. Your earrings will be professionally prepared for the new back.

If you are purchasing a pair of our earrings that are clip on or screwback we will convert to pierced at no cost.

We can change the location of a back if you have earrings that would look better in another position. We can also replace broken pin backs and solder jump rings on your charm bracelet. Please make inquiry for such repairs.

Special note: There is much discussion about converting old, designer signed earrings to pierced earrings: Some feel the historical integrity & monetary value of the piece is lost and some feel it is OK if one wants to wear their jewelry comfortably and prevent loss of the piece. So who is right? My answer would be that it is up to the owner and up to the buyer. I, personally, convert many and save the integrity of a few for the next buyer to decide. Every screw back earring that comes our way is converted to pierced backs, clip on earrings offer more choice.
